Just a simple Video showing how to upgrade your RAM for your Laptop.

CPU -Z utillity is available from : www.cpuid.com

Before you start you want to check how much RAM your Laptop 'supports' as this is the limit of how much RAM you are able to install.

When handling computer components try to avoid static this could damage components. Try to avoid wearing anything that can cause such static such as fleece tops, or jumper / pull overs. Discharging your self by touching a metal radiator before touching a component can also be a good idea if you don't have an anti-static wrist band (which isn't necessary). Do not use power screw drivers as the magnets in the motor can wipe data on hard drives when in close proximty.

  • Yes you need to know, what type of RAM you need for your laptop. If its a newish one it could be a DDR 2 type. But you had best check either by removing one & checking it. Or by using a program like CPUZ & checking the memory info part.

Also make sure you get Laptop RAM known as 'SO-DIMM' when you order, as there are desktop & laptop vesions.

  • *the price*

  • price can vary on how much the RAM cost, different brands cost more than others. There are some budget versions though which are really cheap & good value. (as used here)

There are also some un-branded versions which can be even cheaper but they might not be any good, it can be a lottery with the un-branded modules if you know what brand the actual chips are & there good its fine, some else has just put the chips on one of there boards.

I say go for a budget branded module for a laptop.

  • thanks Ashley I'll send this link to a client of mine who needs help.

  • that's fine, glad it was of help to you

  • Also bare in mind 32-bit operating systems can only make use of 3.2 / 3.5 GB of RAM (depending on some motherboards having a work around to get 3.5 GB), even though it detects the 4 GB of RAM.

64-bit versions of windows are able to make full use of 4 GB & more.
