I half expected her to say "wow, it's a double rainbow all the way across the sky!"

Beautiful video! Exactly how people should interact with these animals - by observing their natural behaviours in the wild! Love it!

I wonder if someone knowledgeable might comment on their behavior. Mammals, unlike fish, DO like to have fun frequently. Perhaps they're breeding or some other social activity, perhaps even interacting with the kids on the beach!

@coconutinfo According to the Vaushon-Maury Beachcomber Newspaper, what we witnessed at this moment were signs of them huntng salmon. They also mention that there was much social play going on, so many types of behavior. I also check the OrcaNetwork who put out a wonerful newsletter that mentions an article from the
Los Angeles Times called, Wild Orcas put on a show the awes even jaded Seattle residents, suggesting of course hunting activity.

Thanks Meg McDonald----This is unbelievable! According to the Vashon-Maury Island Beachcomber (in an article published today but not on its website), quoting NOAA researcher Mark Sears, the orcas who visited Vashon Island on Friday 10/28 included at least 80 members of J, K, and L pods.

These are resident orcas and are likely hunting a school of fish judging by the lines they are forming as they swim past the beach. Their porpoising behaviour also suggests a hunt it going on. It is unlikely they are after the seals because only transients eat other mammals and they are not seen in groups this large. Great video - what an amazing sight!

@mec560After this beutiful show that we witnessed there was one seal VERY close to shore that probably was terrified for it's life, but your right the orcas were after salmon. Here's a link to some pictures taken by Andrew Uber who was next to me on the beach taken of the seal and orca's, great still photo's . (of significally better quality)
Well I can't post the link, so it's on King5 website and the article is Close encounters of the orca kind.
