Jet/Mai - When the day met the night [anti-Zuko/Mai] [MAI PAIRINGS MEP]

Jai Statement. I has it:

Whatever her haters say, Mai is not a silent emo kid, who is constantly bored and miserable. On the contrary - she's always telling that she wants some action, something to do, instead of sitting still, being all pretty and aristocracy. Mai's really content only while fighting and taking the risk. Zuko, being the Fire Lord, would provide her a life full of pointless ball dances, small talks, fake smiles and staying out of trouble - the exact situations, that she had to endure during her childhood with controlling mother. Relationship with Zuko means giving up what she always craved for - freedom. Even if Mai loves him, it's not exactly healthy to put the other person completely before your own needs and aspirations. It doesn't help that Zuko never really understood her, never tried to go with the flow of HER emotions for once.
Jet, on the other hand, doesn't have issues with different ways a person can express him- or herself. Freedom Fighters are also not necessarily bunch of hot-headed and crazy, average teenagers [exactly what Zuko would want Mai to become]. Jet's closest friends are not what you call extremely open when it comes to relieving thoughts and emotions, he also didn't have any problem with Zuko, being all emo and unapproachable, and still wanted to work with him.
What's more, Jet could definitely give Mai the things her life always lacked of and she would never be forced to stay in a golden cage. And if you take out Jet's impulsiveness, they really do have similar characters, with a lot of traits in common.

I disagree. Zuko knows Mai can handle herself, & respects her for it. She took a HUGE risk for him in TBR, & he never complained. Besides, Mai wears the pants. She also HATES sitting around being bored. He couldn't force her to if he wanted (which he wouldn't.) But I agree that it would result in a big fight if he did.
