Stoopchow just because this doesn't blow you away the first time doesn't means it is the case for everyone else. I didn't get this quartet for the first time either. You know what I did? I ignored it for couple of years then when I finally get the chance to study it and listen to it more, I heard the piece in a totally different way and now I'm absolutely in love with it. Not everything in life has to be immediate or with "microwave results".

The point I was making was that you can enjoy a piece of music without studying it. I didn't say you have to enjoy it the first time but there are some songs you do. There are also songs that grow on you and songs you enjoy more when you understand them. I think that's a fair point.

He loved birds and knew their songs loving to spend time in woods and forests listening to them. This is a wonderful piece.

idiots here,LEARN HISTORY PEOPLE,HE WROTE THIS PIECE,DYING,IN A GERMAN CONCENTRATION CAMP.the guards kept him alive,GERMANS DO LOVE "MUSIC",and wrote this piece knowing he was probably GOING TO DIE OF STARVATION AND DISEASE,IT WAS PERFORMED TO THE NAZI ELITE AND GUARD AS CONCERT,NOTHING IN HISTORY COULD TAKE IT'S PLACE,AND YES, SHENTER,HE WAS CLOSE TO SUICIDE,TRULY A MASTERPIECE IF YOU WOULD ONLY TRY TO COMPREHEND IT'S TOTALLY UNIQUE PLACE IN THE HISTORY OF MUSIC.

do you know anything about music? do you understand the backfround of this masterpiece?
this was composed in a concentration camp... and... besides... this movement is beautiful because Messiaen wanted it to sound like birds singing... !!! and he made it!!!
be more respectful!
