Tad Krzanowski

Tad Krzanowski miniatures and animatronics specialist Tad Krzanowski was a modelmaker for Derek Meddings on 'Superman:The Movie' and worked on all of the Salkind 'Superman' movies and 'Supergirl'. Preferring to use a more organic, sculpted approach to modelmaking it is surprising to hear that the world's most wealthy and elusive model collectors know his name as the most accurate and reliable model engineer around.

While working for Meddings and the Salkinds, Krzanowski became a mechanical supervisor for Jim Henson's Creature workshop in London. It was here that his bias towards seemingly organic formation was most appreciated.
When George Lucas saw the Henson Creature Shop technology was making his own critically hated ILM creature shop look comparatively primitive, he asked Henson if Tad Krzanowski could help him update his facilities.


Once at ILM, Krzanowski discovered the effects houses limitations during the production of 'Howard The Duck', where the obvious midget in a suit was so poorly fabricated that Krzanowski opted to become the company's mechanical model designer. It was a good decision, as within less than a year he had won ILM a technical Oscar for his advanced puppetry rigging system on 'Batteries Are Not Included'. He used the device to film the submarine sequences of 'The Hunt or Red October' and for James Cameron's 'The Abyss'.

More recently Tad Krzanowski has produced specially requested model aeroplanes for high-profile, private collectors, and he also co-owns the model making firm WKR productions.
