People probably want to do tournaments with familiar characters.

But I do agree on one thing: Smashboards consists of douchebags.

@matzoball101 One that involves more layers than a few attack buttons and special moves, and can be placed fairly into a tournament.

Melee did a good job. I didn't much like the cancelling, but it was one of those extra layers needed to give the game a more complex edge. Then Brawl took all of that away and added random tripping.

with ssbm you pick a character your opponent picks a character

you go to a stage and you fight til the winner is decided

Yep, that's a fighting game. It's a very rudimentary one, but it's still a fighting game.
