They sound so different in open air!

@WorldWideLighthouses There are not many close by lighthouses. The harbor piers are closed for safety reasons; and the nearest lighthouse to Hood Point is its twin brother about an hour away. Gasoline has become very expensive to travel all the way there. Hood Point's repairs are almost complete; and should be open by December. Then I will take a video. I promise.

@Umpqua1012 As you know, my website is currently down and is only temporarily held on Freeside - a server at the University of Hull.

@Umpqua1012 It is illegal. You infringe so many copy rights on pictures and videos, whilst none of it is even your own content! Why don't you actually put some effort into making videos and actually go out and film? Any old moron can search Google images and whack them into movie maker - the fun bit is actually going to the places and doing it yourself.
-
@burghill1979 You can bet on that!

@semidiesel Search freeside Worldwidelighthouses; there you will find it!

@semidiesel I creating a website soon called Lighthouses of the World; and I am going to use a variety of sounds. Can use these sounds for my engine section?

@semidiesel Those old sirens? Are those sirens still there?
What did the two Gardners power at the Lizard?
Umpqua1012 4 months ago
@Umpqua1012 Both were direct coupled to Crompton dynamos but one had a belt drive to an alternator, the other to a radial Reavell compressor for the foghorn.

Which lighthouse did these come from? Any luck with locating the tannoys? I have another recording of Tater Du (Cornwall) when the tannoy there was in use- a fantastic echo can be heard.

Gardners from Lizard, rest from St Ann;s Head.
ALK/Trinity House have come up with three Tannoy units which will get us going.
Like ot hear the Tater Du recording.

Does the generator create the 400-440 cycle AC signal to drive the foghorn?

Three alternators producing three different frequencies which are combined to produce a tone for the foghorn. Output via 72 100 watt Tannoy speakers and could be heard 25 miles away.
