Mark Driscoll from Mars Hill Church, WA, says that the Holy Spirit dwells in the hearts of unbelievers, preparing their hearts, helping them to "make a commitment" to follow Christ, and drawing them "closer to God". So, Driscoll affirms that the Holy Spirit helps unbelievers to learn to pray their way into salvation.

This contradicts Scripture. Hebrews 11:6 and Romans 14:23 declare that unbelievers cannot please God. The deeds of those without faith are sinful and abominable in the sight of God.

But what about Driscoll, doesn't he teach that the Holy Spirit performs works through unbelievers? Correct. Thus, Driscoll believes in a "god" where "god the holy spirit" causes an unbeliever to pray or seek after God, which "prayers" or "seeking" the Bible says are wicked. So Driscoll's god says that the unbeliever's pray is sin -- but then commands and exhorts unbelievers to pray! So Driscoll's god commands sin!

Contrast this with the God of the Bible. He will accept NOTHING but the work of Christ. Prayers of unbelief CANNOT please him. The only prayers he hears are ones out of thanks and gratitude for what Christ has done. For "How can they call on Him on whom they have not believed?" (Rom 10:14).

Is Driscoll really any different than Joel Osteen?

He wrote me...

=== "Seriously, this is like saying that by crying out in a completely helpless state to a lifeguard to please save me from drowning - that somehow I am interposing my own work and negating the true saving work of the lifeguard. Does no one else think that's just semantic stupidity?" ===

My response...

In everyday life, there's a reason you have to cry out to the lifeguard to be saved. The lifeguard is not omniscient - he may be ignorant of your drowning. Neither is the lifeguard omnipotent - he cannot save you by merely saying, "be saved". It's a conditional salvation. You need to contribute, e.g. you will probably have to grab hold of the lifeboat etc.

So we see -- that the reason you need to cry out / grab hold for salvation, is because the lifeguard is only a PARTIAL SAVIOR. You cry because he's not omniscient. You need to grab hold because he's not omnipotent.

Thus, to say we need to cry our way into Eternal Salvation is to say that God is a partial Savior, and no greater than the lifeguard.

"it is not of the one willing, nor of the one running, but of the One showing mercy, of God." (Rom 9:16)

  • Why do you bother with this guy. He is so very obviously a quack.

  • Thi guy is wrong and his only purpose is discredit Driscoll, the Holy Spirit dwells not in him.

  • Wow, this video should be taken down out of shame. The analysis doesn't correspond in any way to the quotes presented. If you want to attack Driscoll there are better ways to do it. (Personally, I think Driscoll is the Spurgeon of our day.)

  • Andrewcbain, you are just as judgemental as MacArthur. You two are a pair.

  • So basically what you are saying is that God doesn't save any of us? That is ridiculous. Knowledge doesn't save a person. God saves people. We plant seeds.

You say he contradicts himself when he says "There's no reason that you SHOULD walk away." You see, you aren't taking the full context of what Driscoll is trying to grasp. You are. Looking for it one dimensional. Becoming a Christian is not just that saying I'm a Christian, but as 1John 2:6 says, You must walk as Christ did.

  • This video is horrible

  • @UFCWARRIORification again with the fucking bible... you people are so one dimensional. can you have any independent thoughts of your own without screening them through a 'jesus approved' bible filter?. no wonder christian artists and thinkers are always a few decades behind the rest of us... their little cult does not look kindly on people who think for themselves, so all they can do is copy the ideas of others and dress them up in sad backward ideology. im done with this.

  • @TheInfamousThird ... by commenting on this video i prove that while looking for info on the NY marriage equality bill, i came across this bigoted driscoll douchebag. granted, talking to you throwbacks is a waste of time. very soon other states will follow NYs and Vermont and MA'a example and your bigotry will be shown out in the open for what it is... already public opinion has shifted against your fraudulent little cult and it's hatred for everything not cut out of a Christian cookie cutter

  • @paulesungnomo I think on the contrary, that you and people like you are hung up on this. You seem to have thrown off "The Medieval Bondage," but by commenting on this video, you prove that you are unhappy.
