In 2005, Viking, a Paso Fino stallion, nearly died when a hurricane crushed his barn. Tangled in the wreckage, he was so wounded that the vet nearly put him down. Viking survived, but broken in body and spirit. Three owners in a row gave him away before I took him in. I've saved a lot of outlaws and crippled horses, but Viking is the most challenging, yet also most promising horse I have ever been honored to own. You can read about my many horse adventures at horsestories dot com.

  • In my experience with Paso Finos, they seem very prone to suffer mental drawbacks to traumatic situations. They are highly intelligent horses who never forgot anything.

  • I agree, Paso Finos are so much more sensitive to traumatic experiences. Fortunately Vikingo is doing really well now. You can see his latest videos at the beccajustice and thinkhorseba channels here at YouTube.

  • What a magnificant horse. Im sure he is a great stud. Must bring in lots of money!!! Curious to know, have you ever tried a join up?

  • He joins up just fine -- I presume you mean the Parelli join up. Actually he's doing really well now with being ridden, he's happiest with a bosal and Australian saddle. He's friendly as a pet dog now, too.

  • he is gorgeous

  • Thank you. Yesterday (April 2, 2008) our trainer, Dacodah Herkenhoff, taught Viking to be ponied by Pintura, the mare giving birth in this video. She's only just learning to be ridden at age twelve. Next step will be for one of us to ride Pintura and lead the other person while riding Viking.

  • Excuse my ignorance please on somethings. I had never heard of this breed of horse before. I thought the horse was taught how to walk that way and from I have seen on your posts about Viking.....this breed does this automatically? Where can I learn more about this breed and congratulations on your work with Viking. He is a true beauty.

  • Wow, he`s beautiful.

  • Beautiful horse. It's great that he's doing so well with you. It's a shame that more "horse people" don't know enough about horses to know not to rescue an animal they can't rehabilitate, you know? It's like someone getting a rescue pitt bull for a first dog. They might get lucky, but probably not. (Proper pitts being very nice dogs!)

  • are you ever going to cont. it?

  • He was gorgeous! Probably does not like the lunge like because it reminds him of being all tangled up during the hurricane.

  • wow you've got a really nice looking stallion

  • He is stunning, you are lucky to own such a beautiful creature. Well done for rescuing him and restoring him to what you can only imagine is his former glory. He is stunning.

  • you do know that when you use the method you are ment to keep he horse off a rope so they wont be running in tight circles, because he looked very uncomfortable doing that.

anyways i think he has come on a lot :) he is such a cute stally, i think he has got to be the cutest
