The other day, I got an ice cream from McDonalds, but they forgot to put a flake in it. Considered turning back, but then I remembered this movie.

This, Jaws and The Untouchables are the only movies I can think of where a kid really truly buys it on-screen. Oh Schindler's List too.

@JENDALL714 True..its as if Carpenter was a little ahead of his time with this. In the dvd commentary, he says that he wouldn't do a scene like this today. That in itself, is a sad commentary about the world we live in.

What is ironic is that a scene like this was almost unimaginable back when this movie was made, but today is very much reality! When I first saw this movie back in the 70's it was the first time I ever saw a kid get killed on screen and I never heard of a kid getting shot in real life either, that was what made the scene horrifying, but today a scene like this would be no big deal for kids.
