I consider the Richard Strauss Sonata, op. 18 one of the finest sonatas ever written for violin and piano. Alfredo Campoli and Valerie Tryon bring to life this sonata in a beautiful 1968 recording. I think it rivals the superb performance by Heifetz in 1972 given at his last public recital. It is unfortunate that this recording by Campoli and Tryon has never been re-issued on CD. They have also recorded other great sonatas for violin and piano. I have the Respighi, Debussy, Liszt, and Turina sonatas but, like the Strauss, they have yet to be issued on CD. Alfredo Campoli was a giant among violinist and I hope his recording legacy, especially these sonatas for violin and piano, becomes widely available very soon.
Such fine and beautiful playing. Thank you for the posting.

Thank you so much for sharing this great piece here!
The collaboration between the violinist and the pianist was of the highest order,
for they played in accord, speaking to each other via their instruments.

A Tresor to hear this sonate by Campoli!!!
Since I've heard his Bruch concerto interpretation has been always inspirational for me!
