Dave on his first visit to Glenshee (South Carpark) working on paragliding launch practice in very variable light thermic conditions. Thermic south wind ranged 1kt to 12kts, with about +/- 20* variation in direction. Later in the day with improving conditions Dave got a couple of high flights from The Cairnwell, then more flying from the ridge to the east of the carpark, final landing just below the parking area, a nice 'side slope' landing 20ft from the road to save the walk!

  • Yes I am planning the first ever transatlantic flight, from Lizard point, to Newfoundland via paraglider, I think, with favourable trade winds, this is well within my capability.

  • I hate to 'rain on your parade'....

But the trade winds would give you a head wind if you try to fly that route....

With a typical trim speed of 20kts on a paraglider, it could take several year to fly in that direction...

You would be better reversing the route...

As that would give you a tail wind and slash the flight time :-)

  • Ok Murray, thanks for that. Yes, on reflection, it might be better if I did it the other way round .. Newfoundland to Gt Britain it is then. I am hoping to get a minor celebrity to accompany me , I have already written to Selina Scott, Rolf Harris and Norman Wisdom, although I think Norman would need a medical health check to see if he would be up for it. I know Selina keeps herself in good trim.

I cant wait for next June, ..i am hoping to get Sky news to promote the adventure aswell.

  • ?Transatlantic?

    As in (quote)

    Transatlantic Bridge

The outlying islands of Shuna, Scarba and Luing provide a beautiful backdrop to the seascape, whilst the Isle of Seil boasts the Bridge over the Atlantic.

  • Hi Murray, .. i've 5 starred you.

I am planning a transatlantic paraglide flight next year ( possibly looking at late June). If you would like to sponser me, i'll be happy to send you a sponsership form.

    Cheers

  • :-)

You can see the 'sort' of PG pilot that we have to put up with here if you look at 'paraglenner' (Scott Mather) comments at YouTube clip: gm9nSulFctw

  • Lol i'll do my best to couter this, loooool.

  • 'Nice' to see that the scum who help the BHPA MAINTAIN.... their appaling accident, injury & death rate are up to their standard 'one star' attack on anyone who dares to provide a FAR safer choice to BHPA 'training'....

UK PG pilots should never forget that for about a 1,200 pounds you can 'train' to BHPA CP 'standard' with as little as TWENTY MINS AIRTIME... though the typical range (based on talking to many 100 BHPA 'pilots') is 40 mins to 2 hrs, generaly spread over a year or two...
