I created this video as part of my position at Center For Neighborhoods. I write a monthly column in the LEO that tells the stories of neighborhood leaders and celebrates their hard work in the community. The work I do is supported by Center For Neighborhoods and Metro United Way. We believe that telling positive stories about social change sets a tone for hope and possibility in our community.
Luther Brown is a neighborhood leader in Louisville Kentucky. He wants to create a small mini-park on a vacant, city-owned lot at the corner of 18th (Dixie Highway) and Wilson. The park will be created in honor of Erika Hughes (now 4 years old) who was shot in her home at the age of two. Her mother, Earon Harper, was also shot and killed on the scene. Erika was rushed to the hospital by a police officer (Steven Kelsey) and credited for saving her life. Luther is a founding member of the Strothers Association, a neighborhood group working to improve the quality of life for residents in Louisville's west end.
Luther is a graduate of the Neighborhood Institute. For more information on the Neighborhood Institute, please visit: www.centerforneighborhoods.org
