I think this shows that weven early in her career she had a naturally darker color to her voice and that it isn't manufactured! She is a Lyric Soprano with a beautiful extension, not a coloratura. Yes even today she could sing cleaner colorarura. That she could learn from Bonygne or Scotto

i uploaded this recording because it sounds like netrebko, with the darker color tot he voice you mentioned. but i have an even earlier recording of her amina, about 6 years before this performance where the voice was actually much lighter and cleaner. i may get around to uploading it in the future, but i just wanted to say that young netrebko didn't have the darker colors in her voice. in fact, she once sang the queen of the night!

Wow! I have never heard Netrebko sing this before and I wish I had not heard this! She is just not suited to this role at all. This is the first time I have heard her sing a can belto role and it is really very disappointing! I have just listened to the queen of bel canto singing this at her recital from 1967 and Miss Sills far outshines this performance at every level.

Angela Meade is singing Bolena at the Met on October 18, 21, 24, and 28. Netrebko is scheduled for the other performances and since her Vienna debut was a major success she has already proven that she can sing the role and it is unlikely that she will cancel.

@cuoredeinidi - You are right on! Anna is a talented soprano but she is more a Freni than a Moffo. That final high Eflat was weak and barely sustained. I cringe at the thought of her singing Anna Bolena - I only hope that she cancels so we can hear Angela Meade step in !!!!

Without any doubt Netrebko has a lovely voice - lighter or darker - but she´s totally incapable of singing coloratura. The idea of her singing Queen of the Night is simply ridicilous
