  • Food for thought. Thanks from Canada

  • A beautiful painting that doesn't make sense. Who would want a picture of their

children, with one hidden? Still, a truly great artist.

  • @oscarestevez129 : ...READ "Bravura Painter..."

Very very few can paint anything remotely to sargent today.

Each stroke, each value, each hue were PERFECT. PERFECTLY PLACED,..one stroke and got it.

IT is very very difficult to do. He had great eyes and understanding.

To learn from there are few equal..others would be Vermeer and VElasquez...but as stated, as a bravura painter..he is a knockout.

In this age of spoiled, loafers, which brings mediocrity at its VERY best...there are no words.

  • Enjoyed the presentation...

  • @ejdf870 hear hear to that!!!! THE GREATEST!!!!!

  • An interesting side-note, none of these three sisters ever married .

  • @oscarestevez129 You say that based on which evidence? Of his critics' of 100 years ago? Of your own observation and immense painting knowledge? Or someone else's ideas? I bet that 70 years ago you'd say Mozart is a shallow musician who knows how to compose happy tunes only, because that was the critics' 'opinion' about him prior to WWII. But it changed. It's JSS' turn now to be pulled out of historic obscurity — all artists LOVE Sargent, but critics don't. Shame on tasteless critics.

  • As a realist painter for over 20 years, I can confidently say that John Singer Sargent is THE greatest bravura painter that has ever lived. No painter I know had as much flair and technical facility. And, Yes, I am including Rubens, Velazquez, Van Dyck, or anyone else you want to compare him to.

  • Great video.... we need to see more of this from the MFA. The National Gallery does a wonderful job with their PodCast series MFA needs to do the same.

  • I love this painting - very inspirational to me as a painter
