Would You Ask This Man For His Papers?

Would you ask this man for his papers? Why? Because of the color of his skin? Because of the language he's speaking? Because he's doing yard work?

The fact is, there is no way to tell who is documented and who is not. If SB 1070 is allowed to go into effect, American citizens WILL be subjected to racial profiling. People in this country legally will be stopped, interrogated and harassed simply because of what they look like or the language they are speaking.

That's not right and it's not constitutional. Help us protect the constitution. Help us stop SB 1070. What Happens in Arizona, Stops in Arizona.

Seems like we go through the same cycle of racism and xenophobia every few generations. A century ago people were terrified of Irish and Italian immigrants, and for the same alleged reasons: "They dilute our culture," "they don't speak our language," "they take our jobs," et cetera... The real core of each of these arguments is simple: "I'm scared of people who are different." I wish more people understood being American is not about race or skin color and never has been.

Also, if a U.S. citizen in Saudi Arabia got caught with his male lover, both could be executed. Does that justify our killing gay Saudis in this country?

The U.S. imposes its will around the world with the excuse that we are better than all other countries. Therefore we should act better.
