White Deer in New Jersey

This is a white deer who hangs around the trails in the Watchung area of New Jersey.

When the white deer disappeared I asked a County employee about her and they said "Why don't you ask the Freeholders what happened to her?" I asked the County what happened to her. I put up posters asking people what had happened to her. I got a reply 8 months later. Because I cannot verify the facts I can't repeat them. All I know for sure is I saw her after the cull as did three other reliable people. Then she disappeared. That's what I KNOW. What I suspect, confirmed by the reply ...

@ms3470 Well, this is a better explanation then just saying the deer was killed because the county says so. Asking the county what happened to a specific deer and not seeing it in the forest recently, really doesnt prove very much of anything though. It would be an easy target for the culling and I wouldn't be surprised if they got it, but i'm not putting a lot of stock into it.

The white deer in Watchung Reservation seen in this video was killed. There is some question as to when she was killed. The legal cull was Feb 28- March 4, 2011. The County official line is "She was legally killed during the cull." I guess those of us who saw her the week following the cull were hallucinating. She was a great ambassador for the forest. To this day she is still talked about and missed. Deer are not the problem, they are a symptom of the problem.

Great video -- I was dumb founded when my hubby & I saw one in the Watchung mountains. Stupid me shot took still shots on my phone - keep forgetting I have video. We saw the white doe on 11/13/10. She was followed by a large buck. Happy Hiking!

I repeat, when I asked the County what had happened to her the official County response was "She was legally killed during the cull." Curious they should use the word "legally".

@NemeanLion Hello __ froom what we woud check it is the same doe - my pic has the buck in the background so hopes they both make it through the "hunt" authorized by the State of NJ/County of "Essex"....we are going back next weekend and know the spot so ...hopefully, I see her and "him".

We can only hope. Apparently, while many of us "hikers" have seen her...there are not many "official" reports. Watchung is a favorite hiking spot for us so if she is seen again -- Promise next time, I'll do Video!! Not sure if it is the same 6 pt buck we saw up by the Deserted Village (old scout camp cabins) - but now we are "in tune" and will document. Have a great week. Thanks for responding.
