well night vision (which intensifies the image using ambient light) is not the same as Infra Red, and again is different from Thermal Imaging - i think they were using low intensity lasers (which i know they have) that can been seen by night vision - i maybe completely wrong though.

Well, an infrared camera. IR is invisible to the human eye (400-700nm blue-red).
