"Won't You Come Home, Bill Bailey?" and "Just Because" are perfect partner songs. Here Genie does them as a medley.
"Bill Bailey" was written in 1902 by Hughie Cannon.
"Just Because" was recorded by the Nelstone Hawaiians in 1929. Some sources credit the song to the Shelton Brothers and Sid Robin, who first recorded their version -- with additional verses -- in 1933.
I don't know if members of the Nelstone Hawiaans had written the song (the verse used here) or if they got it from Shelton, Shelton, and Robin in 1929.
----
"Won't you come home, Bill Bailey,
Won't you come home?
She moans the whole day long.
"I'll do the cookin', honey. I'll pay the rent.
I know I done you wrong."
"'Member that rainy evenin' I throwed you out
With nothin' but a fine-toothed comb?
I know I'm to blame -- Ain't that a shame!
Bill Bailey, won't you please come home?"
Now, Just Because you think you're so pretty,
Just because you think you're so hot,
Just because you think you've got something
That nobody else has got,
Though you made me spend all my money,
You laughed and called me "old Santa Claus,"
Well, I'm tellin' you, honey,
I'm through with you
Because, Just Because.
