Obtaining this fairly simple understanding of creating beats on the cajon will help you set some foundations for your future playing. Something to remember is that when attempting difficult things on an instrument we often refer back to the simpler things we learnt. So hopefully this will get you into beat making and serve you well in the future.

Well when we start off, think of your limbs being attached to each other with strings. They find it difficult to operate without pulling the other out of what its doing. So we need to work towards "separating" our hands from each other rhythmically.

To do this, you can try playing rudiments like the paradiddle (RLRR LRLL) to help organize your co-ordination.
