Like most boys, my 10 yo son is excited about cars and engines and talks a lot about it. We decided to offer him a real and new small engine last Christmas for him to learn through the dismantling process. It didn't take long that he asked me to build a go kart with him around it. For him, it was a matter of a couple week-ends, but I really knew what it meant. My first reaction...forget it!...but he didn't forget. I thought of it for a few weeks, vacation are not planned yet, he won't be 10 yo for ever, than it would be a great son & dad project that he would probably remember for a long time. So long for my model airplane passion and motorcycle riding this year. His birthday gift...parts and oil! Mainly sketched by hand, drafted some parts on cad. Many hours of pleasure and learning later... Mission accomplished. We finaly pull start the engine for the first time today with lots pride and joy. I think he will remember...

  • hi what did you use to hold the rear axle to the frame ?

  • @workshop1015

Homemade machined parts (1:21) where the central piece is threaded in the center and slightly longer than the outer piece which is welded to the frame. A hand made welded clamp is then bolted on each side of the inner piece (1:22). The clamps are then welded to the axle swing arms.

  • do u have blueprints.. if so may i have a copy so i can build my own?

  • @forresterL11

Not really. I have bits a pieces of rough pencil sketches + a cad for the steering hub
