Rob Schwimmer, piano--Improvisation on Octet from The Light In The Piazza (Adam Guettel)
Description: When Adam Guettel first played me an early version (just piano and vocalise) of what would come to be called "Octet" from "The Light In The Piazza" I thought it was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever heard...still do! The form I do here is not "correct" but I've tried to retain what it was that I felt on that first go 'round

this is my favorite musical. i saw the show 11 times on broadway, and 5 times on tour, so i know the show pretty well. and i have a copy of the pit score, and my favorite song happens to be octet, because of the way it's constructed. and i've heard the original demo adam recorded, and i have to say that you put a beautiful spin on the song. truly amazing work, but towards the beginning, don't make it so.... on off, ya know? it was a little too much of a dramatic change every 2 secs, lol.
