I've been there before, it's pretty wicked.
It's about an hour hike out of eagle river
I've also been to " Site Bay " which is at the end of Knik Goose Bay road, ( mile 19 ) near the airport. It is in worse condition than the others in Anchorage, and Fairbanks.

Former C Battery ('76-'77)... down in the valley where it was nice and warm!!! lol

Awesome video. I've been to a few Nike site in NJ & NY. They were cool, but none had such great views as Wainwright. They to also have guided tours that you have to sign up for but it was worth it. I would definately be like to visit see Wainright if I visit the great state of Alaska. Good Luck with saving this site.

I was stationed at Ft. Richardson from 1966 to 1968 in the 524th Ordinance. My job was to go out and repair the radar and computers at site summit (which was called 'B' Battery). We also maintained 'A' and 'C' battery which were sites just like site summit.

wonderful video. what did the army decide to do?

I have been up there too, but getting permission was a little difficult as it has modern day telecommunications equipment in place. Great video and yea it should be preserved and accessible for tours.

I've been there a few times this summer. It's an amazing place, and the history of the base is incredible. Site Summit should be restored and turned into a Cold War museum so that its legacy can live on as a site of Alaskan defense, and not a pile of rubble on top of a mountain.

@BubbaUnit - you can't just go there any more. You need a permit to hike to the site. And now the site is fenced. To go inside the fence you need to join up with one of the summer tours with Friends of Site Summit.
