SOPA / PROTECT-IP Bills. What Does It Mean For You?

SOPA and PROTECT-IP are making their way through the Congress and House of Representative floors this month. If they pass, it will undoubtedly, cause destruction to the internet you and I know and love. SOPA and Protect-IP are written to give judge/jury type powers to individual copyright holders and, more scary, last copyright holding corporations.

With SOPA and Protect-IP passed, a copyright holder can just "accuse" a site is committing copyright infringement to get that site shut down. Without any harm to the original accuser. Meaning someone who holds copyright can go around shutting down sites they dislike with only as little as a assumption or allegation without any worry of recourse. This would also make holding copyrights a more lucrative business and will undoubtedly breed corruption. Remember the ladies that copyrighted the Birthday song? Then purposefully held the copyright silent for years to be able to go after those using it in their films and movies? Imagine that corrupted story multiplied by a million.

Stop this bill now. Before its too late.

January 18th is national SOPA blackout day. For 12 hours many big websites across the USA will purposefully blackout their pages to show you the kind of censorship SOPA and Protect-IP could bring our nation's internet. Is this internet blackout annoying to you or has it caused disruption in your normal internet activities? Good. 12 hours is just a glimpse into how the internet could degrade forever. We are staring down the real possibility of becoming a nation with internet censorship that rivils China and North Korea.
