It might sound like that on the first take....but he's singing the line I ain't never been laid down.....never lost a fight or knocked out...kind of thing

according to the CD booklet, Levon was on smack when he recorded this song. that might explain the super loose feel of the vocals. regardless of influence, I love this song and the drums are killer!
