Recorded in Raleigh, NC in 1953, this is the comedy monologue that launched the stage, film and television career of North Carolina's favorite son, Andy Griffith. Humorously illustrated by Mad Magazine in a 1958 issue (same illustrations used throughout the video), this routine is a comedy classic.

  • Are those George Woodbridge illustrations?

  • @sallieparker Yes, I believe they are and put together very amateurishly by me, sorry to say...Lanny (Nocaro)

  • When Capitol released Andy's monologue as a single -- 78 & 45 -- the monologue was divided into Parts I & II. It was perhaps the first hit charting comedy routine, paving the way for many other performers like the Bickersons, Bob Newhart, Stan Freeberg, Bill Cosby, Bill Dana, etc.

  • @pgh45rpms Thanks for the note...wasn't aware of the "split"...Nocaro

  • Grandma told us to look this up and listen to it, glad I did. :)

  • This must have been Arlo Guthrie's inspiration for "Alice's Restaurant" -- brilliant stuff!

  • I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I haven't heard this funny record in years. Thanks!

  • @cptroxy1961 Oh yes Victor was funny, I watch it on PBS.. Another funny guy was Brother Dave Gardner doing his famous Motorcycle Story.I was only 14 but big for my age when my sister and her husband took me to a club in Atlanta Ga. I thought I was going to laugh myself sick watching this guy. He was a little bit raunchy in his life stuff, but after all I was supposed to be 18.. anyway he is on here, give him a try

  • I agree about Red Skelton, he was so-so hysterically funny. Another good one was Victor Borge, you should check out some videos of him. We used to watch him on PBS stations.

  • Someone did the exact same joke, except the sport was hockey. I'm not sure which came first, though.

  • Friend? I don't have a ticket. I don't even know where it is that I'm going! lmao

  • 4 people are communists

  • @HonchoPoncho455 Oh yeah I forgot I am 61 and from NC
