  • come sail away by STYX in the background!!!

  • yes someone that knows what they are doing . good shit man.

  • (Cont'd). . . extra 1/8" or so headroom? I am thinking about doing that. Just addin a layer of filler to that edge of the bed side skin (that gets spot welded). If I add 1/8" or so thick layer of filler, it should allow my part to be 1/8" thick. Then, I can spray the gelcoat lighter and maybe use some woven roving instead of matting for that section. The final glasses part has to be thin enough to mount on the bed, otherwise they wouldn't fit correctly.

  • (Cont'd) . . what would you do to replicate that thin sheetmetal where it is butted up against the bed?

If I did my usual layup in the mold, that edge of the bed skin would be alot thicker, up to 1/4" or so (depending on what oz mat and how thick my gelcoat is).

I guess a better question is, what do you do when you need to make a 'glass part that needs to be as thin as the plug (orig. piece being copied). Should I add a 1/8" or so layer of body filler prior to molding, so I can have that extra

  • Hey MrRoach- I was wonderin if you might have an idea or two for a new project I'm working on.

(I'm using my phone, so for some reason I can't comment on your page and it limits how many words I can type).

Anyways, I want to make some fiberglass replacement bed sides for my 88 Chevy truck. If you look at your truck at how the bed skin is spot welded to the bed structure, you will notice that the sheetmetal is about 1/16" to 1/8".

Well if you were to make replacement bedsides, what would you
