If you are planning on making them as a "product" you can always sample from most I.C. manufactures. And I believe that A.M.S. will ship for free if you purchase the I.C. from their website directly.

This is definately cool. However, to build a powerful and precise servo, it is never a good idea to place the encoder after the transmission/gears. Your demo here would be even cooler, if the encoder was directly on the motor shaft. Very good work though :-)
