It's always more economical to use switchable lights because you can save some money from buying the full equipment. As a result, you can still allot your savings from buying other important stuffs for your garden or for other things that you will need at home.

@hairybaws911 I use a 400w hps in a grow tent 1.2 x1.2 x2.0 (mtrs) and its not to hot have your tent well ventilated and that will help with heat!!! if your in doubt use a cooled lamp!

@hairybaws911 r u talking 1 foot by 1 foot? if so, then yes hps will be way too hot. even if cooled, it could be dangerous.. i use fluorescents and that works great, they are 2800 lumens.

You ever think about using LED's? Ive got a light specifically designed for growing high quality high yielding plants. I use 9 spectrum's all 3watt 60 degree angle LED's. If your interested hit me up.
