Just a sarcastic response to Shanedk's comparison of a carpentry tool to a danerious weapon...

As a Libertarian it is my right to keep my own M15 Intercepter in my own garden (for my own protection and not for fun at all)... lol

Question: It's about where do you drawer the line and do you think a government should step in at any point to stop "individuals" like myself purchasing military grade weaponry...?

  • Common sense things about guns:

    * Guns are on a long list of things that are 'not for kids'; like power tools, dangerous and poisonous chemicals, drugs, and playing in traffic. Many gun-locks are available.

    * Bad people have guns illegally. Others are just brutes and tyrants. They like to take advantage of people without guns.

    * Simply brandishing repels assaults.

    * Do you really think it is good idea to make sure that a people can never rebel against their government or a military occupation?

  • 1) Guns were the only thing on your list intended to kill people (that was my whole point).

    2) In most countries that outlaw guns, the criminal fraternity also don't tend to have them.

    3) Not sure what you are on about there.

    4) Numbers of people overthrow governments, not weapons...!!!

  • "It's about where do you drawer the line and do you think a government should step in at any point to stop "individuals" like myself purchasing military grade weaponry?"

1)Of course you are an individual.

2)Most people don't have the financial ability to get military grade weaponry such as a nuke or a tank or a missle launcher.

3)If it is a problem for individuals to own military grade weapons then is makes no sense to have a standing army. Any gun control would essentially be hypocrisy.

  • "As a Libertarian it is my right to keep my own M15 Intercepter in my own garden (for my own protection and not for fun at all)... lol"

True, but you don't have the financial ability that the government has.

  • Handguns don't work against tanks, or jet fighters, or bombs, or missiles. You have to hide from those things. They can scorch the earth all they want. However, unless the infantry or the brute squad has full body armor and a full helmet, they are vulnerable to bullets-- at a distance, from behind cover. They have a reason to take caution and be afraid when they enter a home without the owners permission, and rightly so.

  • "Do you really think it is good idea to make sure that a people can never rebel against their government or a military occupation?"

Please, this is a pathetic argument for guns. What good will your pistol do against an M1 Abrams tank? Or an F22 Raptor? It won't do shit. The idea that people need guns in case they need to overthrow the government is retarded. To rebel against a government you would need ground penetrating missiles, tanks, aircraft carriers, etc. Your revolver would be useless.

  • * Guns in domestic hands are generally not intended to kill people--they are intended to prevent robbery, rape, and murder. Brandishing a gun is usually enough to do this, and there is always the option of shooting to miss or to wound.

    * In most countries that outlaw guns, criminals don't need to have them. They know their victims are defenseless.

    * How many unarmed people does it take to overthrow one machine gun? Tianamen Square protesters in 1989 would tend to disagree with your assessment.
