Blackbird (Beatles / Paul McCartney) - sung by Jack Marti

This is one of those songs that every acoustic guitar player wants to be able to play. I started trying to figure it out when I was a teenager back in the early '70s. For the longest time I never could manage to play it and sing it at the same time. Part of the problem was that I wasn't playing it just right! Thanks to You Tube, however, I was able to watch Paul play it, and I finally figured out how to do it! I'm so glad he's left handed! It's like watching a mirror image!

And, whether Paul knew it or not, this song presents the hope of the gospel message. He applied it to the plight of black people in England and America, and especially the black woman, as the word "bird" is a slang expression for a woman in England. But, it could be as easily applied to sinners who are oppressed by sin. Though they are blind (sunken eyes), they may see, and though they may have broken wings, yet they may fly, if they will only believe! Thanks for this great gospel song, Paul!

Enjoyed that. One of my favorite pieces. I'm not a guitar player but I can relate to "getting it"....Like the person below wanting to finish up Rhapsody in Blue,,,by the way and very dear favorite to me too. I choreographed a ballet production to that just for my mother..One of her favorites. Anyway, I'm still working on Malaguena,,,getting it just right on my mbira...ALMOST done too :0)

I never thought of the meaning of Blackbird until you posted that "Bird" is slang for women, now it gives it a whole new meaning. Great job by the way.
