Homeowner shoots burglars - Nails one!

SAN ANTONIO -- Police say a homeowner shot a would-be thief outside his South Side home early Monday morning.

The shooting happened just before 5 a.m. on the the 1600 block of Elson, near West Petaluma.

Investigators said the homeowner discovered four men outside his home trying to break into his home and steal his 4-wheeler. That homeowner then grabbed his shotgun and went out to confront the men.

"The owner's been broken into before, things stolen from him before, so he did fire some shots at the people trying to steal his 4-wheeler," said Sgt. Edwin Rivera of the San Antonio Police Department.

One of the four, a 34-year-old man, was hit in the backside. The other three men took off in a red Camaro. The injured man was taken to Wilford Hall Hospital. His condition is unknown.

Police are searching for the other three suspects.

Because of the "castle doctrine" law, which gives a Texans the right to defend their property, the homeowner will most likely not face any charges.

Burglary in the USA is one of the most dangerous occupations a person can have. And that's how it should be. Out of all the embarrassments I suffer from living in Texas due to the vary warped education standards and breaches of separation of church & state, one thing I'm proud of is that I have the right to defend myself.

why would he face any charges for defending his home......that crap is reserved for canadians,who are prohibited from defending their property....hooray for the home owner for standing up......and hooray for texas.....hopefully the robber and his pals will be doing a long stretch in huntsville.....

@rb2112002 That is an incredibly silly response. If someone doesn't some aspects of where they live that does not mean to move. If that was the case no one ever would have a place to stay as they'd suffer from "greener pastures" syndrome. That's Assuming that it's even easy to just up and leave. Most importantly, people can actually like do stuff to try to change their surroundings.
