On June 27, 2011, at the 102nd Annual Conference of the International District Energy Association in Toronto, Canada, three informed and powerful personalities engaged in a timely and enlightening debate "Climate change, common-sense energy and global economics: Where do we go from here?" Bjorn Lomborg, Tom Casten and Tom Rand discussed their respective views on the convergence of climate change, energy efficiency and economic policies. The debaters are also authors. Our keynote luncheon speaker, Dr. Bjorn Lomborg, director of Copenhagen Consensus Center is author of "The Skeptical Environmentalist" and "Cool It", a documentary recently released on DVD. Tom Casten, founder of Trigen Energy Corp and chairman of Recycled Energy Development, widely recognized for his evangelical passion for profitably re-using waste heat, is author of "Turning Off the Heat." Dr. Tom Rand, Toronto-based entrepreneur, is helping to spawn new clean energy startups and is author of "Kick the Fossil Fuel Habit: 10 Clean Technologies to Save Our World." These gentlemen share a similar conviction for injecting common sense and sound economic principles into the energy and environmental debate, from slightly divergent perspectives.
