(FGTH fan since 1984). Pleasuredome and Liverpool were fantastic. Liverpool was polite, but prior to that, FGTH was mysterious, sinister, funny, subversive in both music and all the other stuff. FGTH toned down their image with Liverpool. Sort of like the original Star Wars trilogy versus the prequels. NO HAN SOLO IN THE PREQUELS. BTW, I saw them at the Aragon Ballroom in Chicago in 84 or 85, but this concert looks amazing. Wish I had been there.
Actually, there could be a place for all of them, between rock and pop. It's not incompatible. Look at WIRE who are different personalities, and whose Manscape album just makes me think sometimes to the best of FGTH Liverpool mood.
And, I remember that Holly didn't like very much (the work of) Steve LIPSON. But, actually, why Trevor HORN didn't (really) produce Liverpool ?
Gill, Nash and O'toole were making more rock sounding tunes, think it was holly johnson who didn't approve. Trevor Horn still mastered the album hence the ott (but still wicked) production, the trouble was he wasn't there when the album was being made
thank you so much i might be wrong but i always thought the lyric "she should buy us all a drink" was about thatcher, or was i wrong? saw fgth live that was the best concert i saw.

Yorkshiregirl1967 - it was. Actually, the whole song was about thatcherism. "She should buy us all a drink" was such a great line!

I think it didn't go down to well with the publis coz they were expecting something more dance orientated

Liverpool is terribly underrated, and even Frankie themselves seemt not to like it due to overproduction of Steve LIPSON.
There are though great songs, not heard anywhere before. I like the futuristic sound of it, notably on "Kill the pain"
