to even put dave and jay in the same sentence is absurd. dave had the whole package and cud be funny w\o always having to be likeable. leno had no such ability. thats why hes such a predictable ass-kisser now. comics/actors, save their best material for their Letterman appearances., bcuz they know its gonna be more widely discussed and edgier, regardless of what the stupid ratings say. dave is king. leno by contrast, is nothing more than carrot top with more elaborate setups for his prop comedy.

Jay was pretty funny in his own anecdotal way. More energy, than comedy really. &altho Im sure Dave disagrees about this~ Im glad frankly that he got 'screwed' out of the Tonight Show 4Leno, to stay on his own island. TS was 2sterile &old Hollywood for DL. Carson pushed the limits of that time slot as far as it cud go. Leno was custom built2b more safe&vanilla, 4all the star interviews 4movie premieires and such. Letterman changed television and culture itself, 4ever. A much better gig, IMO.

jayleno used to befunny aperrantly - young Italien and full of energy
Letterman: "I don't need to be out here, do I?"
Leno: "No, we don't need you. I've been telling the network that for 18 months."
Doesn't seem like a joke, in hindsight.
