you should look into the katadyn pocket water filter. its a little bit more expensive but it is much more durable and cost effective. it does 13,000 Gallons for the life of the filter. yes, 13,000 gallons!!!

thats why i use a camel pack and it holds two litters and i used it when i went hiking 2 weeks ago and i live in florida and i gets hot and it was very good you can get it at walmart at a good price and outdoor products made it

I wouldn't drink any of the water you filtered. Not because the filter doesn't work, but because you contaminated the output repeatedly. The intake hose is contaminated and by wrapping it with the outtake hose around the filter when you were done, you contaminated any water that comes out of it. Plus by putting your wet hands around the mouth of the bottle without sanitizing them first you contaminated the bottle. You must keep the output components sterile or your defeating the purpose!

You do realize that the katadyn hiker is the same as the pur, katadyn bought pur and is now making the same filter. you put the katadyn in mud and expected it to filter, then you switched filtering places. what you should have done in dig a 6 inch hole and let the dirt flow away and then filter out of the 6inch hole to no get any mud. i was the msr sweetwater and the katadyn vario.
