I agree with @bm311. Doctors only have 1 or 2 courses of pharmacology; whereas, pharmacists have 4 years in training. If anything, pharmacists are the experts when it comes to choosing medications.

@ff2paladin.. whoever told you that is 100% incorrect. Physicians have at most 1 semester of pharmacology to learn the basics behind every drug on the market. Pharmacists are the drug experts, we have taken 2 semesters of pharmacology, 2 semesters of medicinal chemistry and are trained to be knowledgeable regarding medicines. Physicians diagnose, pharmacists treat with medicine. I'm in pharmacy school now and that is exactly how we are trained.

I was told something today in my Physical Pharmacy class by our professor. The drug itself is probably better know by the physician, who has more advanced training in pharmacology (in addition to the fact that he was required to get a bachelor's degree prior to going to professional school). The pharmacist is the one who should know drug PRODUCT the best.
