@Bassbait And by his tone he seems to have, yet you still called him naive

@CilverNightHigh No. This is what I mean - Metallica is a crappy band, and has been since the 90's. However, their 80's material is great. It's unfair to say you hate Metallica if you haven't heard the 80's stuff, because you're basing your judgment off of a false perspective. If you have only seen Emo Phillips from one skit, you have missed out on what kind of comedian he actually is, as with this case, you ARE missing out. So you should at least see a VARIETY of material before you judge.

@Bassbait So you think unless someone sees all a comedians work they can't accurately dislike it? That's like saying you can't like a comedian until you see all their acts.
-
@CilverNightHigh Except for when it's for TV, that makes it a different case. Usually, when it's for a TV show, the person will act very different. For example, Emo lacks his trademark humor in Miami Vice, Weird Al Show, UHF, and Relative Strangers, all of which he is in, and two of which are TV shows. Maybe the guy saw him in one of those...
like Tosh? I don't think he's that hilarious in Tosh.O, but I LOVE his stand up routine. Sometimes.
Comedians aren't a one act breed (except Dane Cook).
-
@Bassbait The way he sounded, he'd seen more and disliked it. Plus, you say that he has a certain type of humor, and if a person dislikes one act odds are they won't like another.
-
@CilverNightHigh Well, that's the thing. If a comedian doesn't make you laugh, it might have been THE ROUTINE ITSELF. If you hate a comedian based off of one thing you've seen them do, that's ignorance. When I say "research" I mean watch more of his stuff to determine if he's funny. I call someone naive when they base Emo Philips' career on this one guest starring role in a TV show, and don't even bother to look more into it.
-
@Bassbait When I watch a comedy routine, I don't research a comedian. If a comedian doesn't make me laugh, It's not because I 'didn't research them', it's because I didn't find their jokes funny, and that means the jokes don't appeal to my demographic, and no comedian appeals to all of them.
Don't get me wrong, I love Emo Phillips, but don't say someone is naive because they have a dissenting opinion about a comedian.

@116Bears Obviously you just don't understand his sense of humor. It's a combination of anti-climax, irony and paraprosdokian. His humor style is similar to that of Stephen Colbert or Mr. Plinkett. You can't say he sucks because you know next to nothing about him. You'd have to watch lots of his videos to understand, and usually someone who says something "sucks" doesn't do much research to come to that conclusion. Look at it with an open mind. Don't be so naive.
