to those of you who are ignorant and/or irreverent toward the kipping pull-up- you really need to start reading things outside muscle and fitness magazine. the consumerist crap that comes out, telling people they need to put on leather gloves and isolate their lats on the pull-up bar in order to achieve a wider back is there for just that purpose. a wider back. it will help you build muscle mass but offers nothing in the way of hip power and nothing in the way of coordination.

man i love gym jones, i love crossfit... but neither groups invented intensity or resistance training. get in where you fit in and quit arguing about it

Kipping or no kipping I don't give a shit, EXCELLENT work and effort shown here.

Cheating is defined as some variant of a form that offloads intensity from the target muscle.
Kipping IS cheating.
That doesn't mean it's BAD, it depends on what you want to achieve.

Take a look at the guy at 3:40 of this video and compare him to the others. It's really simple, just retitle the video "Kipping Pull Ups"?!
Also, post a video with "real" pull ups completed at a different tempo such as "down slow and up fast" to compare the difference in reps with the kipping ones. I'd also be interested in seeing what these guys can pull for a 1RM. Or maybe how many reps they can do at bodyweight + 100 lbs.

@eamonob84 you know him personally to say this?

Kipping actually came from the military.
-
@eamonob84 Of ocurse! Shut up!

@hipoxantha mark twight ripped off crossfit after he left their community. everything he teaches he learned from them. after he stole their material, he published it under his name and sold it to the military.

impressive strength, but really not very good kipping example. he's not getting a full ROM on any of those reps. his elbows are still bent on every rep and he's not nearly explosive enough or using his hips enough to give a good example of a kip. still impressive strength though...don't think i could do that many.
from Mark Twight himself:
"was a bit sick of seeing Pull-ups finished with the chin grazing the underside of the bar so we filmed a few people in the gym pulling their whole head over the bar. All of them (except John) use some sort of kip to generate momentum, which is considered "cheating," usually by folks who have trouble doing Pull-ups... "
