I am presenting the BMS i'm working on for future use on an elecctric car using 40 thundersky Lithium LiFePO4 100Ah cells.

This BMS is Bleeding BMS type and have one shunt for each cell to equalize all them to the same voltage of 3.70V each. The charger output will be also throttled by a mosfet to never allow one or more cell to go above 3.70V. As soon that one or more cell reach the 3.7V the charger circuit will open or pulsate depending on the feedback received by the 3.7V watchdog.

This BMS also have an LVC ( Low Voltage Cut off that will send a signal to the motor controller to cut the throttle in case where one or more cell drop below 2.1V.

In this Video i'm showing that all shunt are fully working. Each of those have a corresponding orange LED.

I am testing this BMS using a 1/100 scale battery usinh 40s1p of A123 cells made of 40x 18650 format cell of 1.1Ah.

Credit to Gary and fechter for the BMS basic desing.

The 24s also availlable in multiple of 4s bms Board availlable from Gary aka Ggoodrum at our ebike forum at www.endless-sphere.com/forums ( Just mention it's Doctorbass advice )

  • do you know where can i get 48s balancer?

  • were can i find the design or purchases the unit from?

  • Shunting on top voltage with no bottom balancing. MAJOR FAIL!

Can you shunt a set of 100ah cells each with your 1 watt resistor? I think not! Do the maths.

Try it and your electric car will end up like all the other cars with top balancing BMS .. In flames!

But meanwhile will be killing the batteries that go zero volt on discharge before the others.

Sorry, but these batteries need to be understood. Please learn off the lessons of others. Don't copy the failures.

  • 4:46 oh yes! thats awesome man.

  • very good work, that battery management system must get very warm have you taken internal temps?

  • Nice! I was planning on using the same BMS (36 cells, Thundersky) for mine, but think i'm going to wait for the V4 boards. I had some lingering questions about some things, but this video actually answered some of them.

    Thanks for posting!

  • Good job! Ty 4 sharing. Once again, you're right there on the cutting edge of technology. Sweet.

  • Dr. Bass,

Nice work as usual. I would like to make one like this for cells I am going to order shortly. I didnt' understand the web address for the design. Can you post that in the description so I can check out that design? Thanks.
