  • How about using an arch bridge and NOT RUNNING SHIPS INTO THE SUPPORTS? I don't think any bridge is 'made' for ships crashing into them...

  • I want the old youtube back.

  • @muffinproject What makes them think that a ship would AIM for the smallest part of the bridge anyway?

  • @muffinproject You are correct. But in the scenario of heavy winds and waves, the ship might drift it to the bridge and thus smashing into the supports.

  • Thats why there is duct tape.

  • Wouldn't a tunnel have been easier, given the importance of this sea lane?

I have not used the bridge yet, but I am looking forward to doing so.

Right, because destroying a pillar of a cable-stayed bridge will not cause the whole to collapse.

Also, arched bridges do not necessarily reach down to the water level. The Chaotianmen bridge for instance (which actually has about a 10% larger span) is raised on pillars and the whole arch is thus many meters above the water.

  • @muffinproject I think they made clear that: 1- In an arch briche when collison happen the whole structure collapses, 2-The probability of a boat going against a normal bridge support and causing damage is lower.

  • @2129261184 They'll also happen without arched supports.
