A Tea Party protest, with over 400 protestors, was held on the Hardin County Courthouse Square April 15 2009, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.
Organizer Debra Tennison said she does not think current representatives are speaking for the will of the people. Specifically, she mentioned President Barack Obamas economic stimulus plan — actually calling it a non-stimulus — bailout spending and the proposed federal budget.
Were just not in agreement with what is going on, she said.
State Rep. Tim Moore, R-Elizabethtown, and Republican Lisa Williams, who ran for the state House last year spoke at the event.
I didn't see any Democratic officials there.
Click here and here to view photos of the event.
If you watch the video you will hear, comments about, activist judges, gun control and Abortion, and yes the government spending and the debt was was mentioned at the protest, but it seemed to me that this event was created to fire up the Republican base and from what I could tell it worked.
I was confused by some of the signs that said no more taxes, when in fact taxes have been cut for most Americans. While shooting video and photos I just couldn't help but think, where were these folks when George Bush was running up the national debt, where were these folks when George Bush took us to war in Iraq, where were these folks when George Bush was listening to our phone calls and monitoring our emails, where were these folks when George Bush was water boarding prisoners?
I took the time to capture this event, not because I believe in what the event stood for, but because I felt it was necessary to show the Kentucky Democratic Party what's going on in the rural areas of the state and sometimes video and photos speak louder than words.
The Republican Party is gearing up for the 2010 election and we had better be ready for the fight of our lives, because these folks are serious.

  • Tim Moore doing what he does best... Hot air exchange. Needs to be removed from office as a can do nothing official.

  • why does everyone dis etown? i miss it!

  • We need more Tea Parties in Elizabethtown. I don't know which is worse the Federal Government which is neither Democrat or Republican anymore or our local pocket stuffing politicians. Elizabethtown is corrupt and the postings below echo my sentiment . I am rather well traveled and this is a town that is a wanna be town with little to back it up. However, you people that think that you are so well informed will be the first to yelp when you see what the government has planned for you.

  • I have to live is this crazy town for the time being.....geez! Can you say rednecks?

  • waste of time these TEA parties....a bunch of like minded, mindless idiots venting is all it amounts too. No Washington cant hear you, your wasting your time.

  • btw nobody agrees with you, thank you,

  • republicans can always count on the overwhelming stupidity of a large segment of the American people....sad...sad..sad...

  • The people enslave themselves. When American "juries" stop sending citizens who refuse to pay the income tax to prison, then and only then will Americans be free. The American people will never see change until they understand that they must (with respect to the income tax), always vote NOT GUILTY in the jury box!! w w w . truthattack . o r g

    TAX-FREEDOM . c o m

  • It is good to see so many people protesting our tyrannical government but I think the "Tea Party" phenomena is off base. We need to protest with our vote The Vote is our most powerful tool to initiate real change, but only 30% of our population utilizes this important right. The vast majority of people that do vote have no idea how to make an informed decision. Voters just follow party lines and watch constrained debates on TV. We need a revolution in this country: NO 2 PARTY SYSTEM..

  • I wonder if theyll be doing this next year after they get their middle class tax cut.
