@hoggerdave I have photographic evidence from the 1950s that 2317's smokebox looked pretty much exactly as it does in this video. Silvery graphite.

@mmikeironhorse It's a Boston & Maine heavy Pacific.

@rollinswitch they are working on a B&M 2-6-0 mogul right now. they also have a nickle plate road 2-8-4 but i dont think they are working on it right now.

He's just not hangin on it!

The silver on the smoke box is called "graphoil". Its a mix of powdered graphite and oil. It is correct, chances are they just applied it and its still fresh. After a while it gets covered in soot and dirt and goes black. Graphoil is a traditional finish, used before High temp paints were invented.

I've been thinking about it and at first all the vids of 2317 I've seen that are "recent" late 07 through 2008 seem to have a different whistle on her. Now watching the runby at the end of this vid, could it be they just aren't hanging on the cord like they usually do?
-
Yup, could always be worse!

at leas t be glad they dont look like they used to! without their real numbers, painted in DL&W paint scheme with that name on the tender

Yes it's also Canadian. Be nice if they got one US steamer running.

Is that a Canadian steam locomotive or an American Locomotive?
