Members of L.A.W.S. (Labor Advocates for Worker Solutions) came to Elkhart as part of an effort to mobilize local government to represent citizens who are losing their job, pension, health insurance and quality of life.
Among the causes L.A.W.S. stands behind is the unfortunate and brutal treatment of the Conn Selmer union UAW 364 who were on strike for three and a third years.
Tough times require tough measures. GM is owned by the Federal government now so the federal government should respond. However, when a company busts employees are mistaken if they expect not to have problems. There should be an effective and fair safety net but specific unions should not be singled out and given preferential treatment.
