to say this is "so gay" is totally missing the point. throughout the entire movie, plato's love for james dean's character is shown through facial expressions, deeds, and conversations between the two. this video just emphasizes that point. Good work!!!

R.I.P James Dean (Jim) and Sal Mineo (Plato) you two are in a much better place now :)

The title suits right for the time that it was released. It came out in the 50's, where basically being gay was considered a taboo.

@londonlass100 i know right that look told me everything i needed to know lol

@WolfQueene.Yes.Absolutely.As a gay man i recognized the affection and chemistry the first time i saw the movie, which was many years ago.In my opinion also, their love was beautiful. Sal Mineo and James Dean were both excellent in portraying that.I didn't hurt that both of these men had relationships with men in real life.

@moggyparty Hey moggy. That's how I looked at it. I never even realized this "gay subtext" was in the film. Is this just people making that up, or is there evidence that this is true? If so, I'd like to see a link to it in my mailbox. It has to be what the director or a a writer or producer said. Not some armchair movie analyst. The way I looked at Plato and his relationship was that Sal lacked a lot of relationships in his life... he had no brothers or family. He looked up to Jim like a brother.

Teenager Sal Mineo's acting was superb. Although just a movie, it SEEMED REAL. My God, the way that boy looked at James Dean LOL!

Yeah Plato was in love with Jim
I've read that due to the Censorship guidelines at the time they could only hint at the love between them
There was even a scene where Jim and Plato kissed in the original script but of course the censors balked and said it absolutely could not be in the film
I mean Plato even has a picture of I believe Vic Damone hanging in his locker not a girl
also Buzz's gang said to Plato about how we got eyes for him too - meaning Jim

Ahhh, that was lovely! I live Jim/Plato and their TOTALLY TRUE LOVE.
I really didn't see any sparks between Jim and Judy, but Jim and Plato... man, the way Plato was so in love with Jim, and how much Jim cared for Plato... beautiful, just beautiful.

@moggyparty Sal Mineo, as Plato, opened up all his misgivings about running away from home because he does not feel that he belongs to that home. Since the days of James Dean the domestic and social problem of being unloved by his very own family is recurrent in the United States up to the present.

IF A SON HAS RESPECT & LOVE FOR
HIS FATHER, DOES THAT MEAN
THAT THAT IS A "GAY" RELATIONSHIP ?
SOME PEOPLE SEEM TO THINK SO.
TO THEM EVERYTHING THEY SEE IS "GAY"
SHOWING FRIENDSHIP & AFFECTION
DOESN´T MAKE YOU "GAY", OR DOES IT ?
haha I'm going to think of Jim and plato every time I hear this song.

Forget what all these haters are saying! They don't recognize the 'gay undertones' and longing to be loved between the 'Plato' and 'Jim' characters!!!
