I posted a video before of my earlier efforts in this project. Now I have completed the transformation with toolbar icons, boot screen, and real XP banners on the logon screen.
Heres a complete rundown of what I did to get this result:
-WindowBlinds 4.6: Made modifications to the theme created by SkinStudio 5
-ObjectBar 1.65: Modified Windows XP Blue theme
-Icons: Replaced resources in shell32.dll straight from the XP one. Also did mydocs.dll and explorer.exe. I also used the Windows 2000 Revolutions pack for toolbar icons and enabling the full color 32bit icons throughout the entire system. Transparent labels on the desktop are by a program called Transparent.
-Explorer sidebar: Used HTML and CSS to modify the existing sidebar to match XP's.
-BootSkin: Used the Windows XP SP2 bootskin I created and applied it.
-"Please Wait" dialog that appears after boot screen: Replaced resources in msgina.dll straight from the XP one.

@234cruzer haha I agree, the first time I used Windows 7 I regretted it! You're also right about the fact about Windows 7 might as well be a mac!

Ugh ugly! I always use the classic theme on my copy of XP.
But I must admit, I much prefer the 2000 loading screen after you turn it on. You actually get a progress bar.
It seems that most modern softare does away with progress bars, and percentages. Instead replacing it with an indetermate animation, like a spinning disk.
I guess as years go by, they are dumbing down stuff, epsecially Microsoft.
