It's just srinivas and his hands - no electronic tricks. He bends and slides the notes to make it sound "indian-vibish" lol. He is a virtuoso that was doing huge concerts in India by the time he was 12 years old.

shrinivas uses a slightly modified form of electric mandolin, but the sound is not from electronics. there are no extra effects other than the technique of playing the instrument. there are others as well who play in this style, on regular electric instruments (no special effects). search for carnatic pieces on guitar and you will find amateur as well as professional pieces.
