Indonesian Dance Festival Showcases Diversity of Culture

And... what if 14 professional choreographers from seven countries put their ideas together to create one big dance event? Well that's exactly what's happening in Jakarta at the 9th Indonesia Dance Festival.

STORY:
This dance event brings choregraphers from Singapore, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, France, the US and Italy to the shores of Indonesia.

Some of the dances performed include Moving Space from Indonesia, Comfort from Italy and Point of Words from Japan. This festival is attracting a lot of attention from people in the area.

[Nungki Kusumastuti, Festival Director]:
"This show is held in Indonesia, and invites participants from foreign countries. This is to let Indonesian people have a chance to see art shows from other countries."

There are also collaborations of dances created by two countries like Pichet & Myself from France & Thailand, and Our Love by Indonesia & the US. The differences from the cultural backgrounds of each of these countries as well their artistic backgrounds make this dance festival full of cultural diversity.

[Fauzi Bowo, Governor of Jakarta]:
"I hope that everything brought in this festival will give new stimulation and ideas to Indonesian artists, so they can perform in boarder events."

The festival was created back in 1992.
