In a speech to the Munich Security Conference, the Prime Minister signaled a marked change in policy towards Britain's ethnic and religious minorities, saying the "hands-off tolerance" of those who reject Western values has failed.

He urged a "more active, muscular liberalism" where equal rights, the rule of law, freedom of speech and democracy are actively promoted to create a stronger national identity.

"If we are to defeat this threat, I believe it's time to turn the page on the failed policies of the past," he told the conference during a panel discussion attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

His speech echoed controversial remarks made by Merkel last year, when she also called multiculturalism a failure, saying Germany had not devoted enough attention to the integration of immigrants.

  • Having listened to this speech, instead of the media's interpretation of it, it does NOT attack multiculturalism as an ideal, rather it argues (successfully) for a new form of multiculturalism, with core values of religious tolerance, equality and integration at it's core. He makes a lot of the distinction between Islam and extremism, and likens the extremism to far right white movements. a very powerful speech, a very liberal speech, and one I am in agreement with.

  • I don't know David well enough to know whether or not he's lying, but his message here is backboned and and appreciative of his country's pride. As an American, I can relate to this. Why should England give up its identity, its culture that it has fought and died many wars for? Everyone has been made to feel guilty for not welcoming everyone else with open arms. Acceptance is not forced, it's earned. I think Cameron was still too soft though.

  • @fargonbastedge CONT.... Not to mention it was you and people who think like you who believed and advocate this liberal multicultural policy that got us where we are today...

    The nerve...

  • @MCsuperChristina Whats going on in the world is to complicated for your emotions to digest.

Just because you dont like to hear about it, doesn't mean its not true.

Go back to watching American idol and the Kim Kardashin shows you woman. I cant believe I wasted so much time with you.

  • @fargonbastedge You're nothing short of another right-wing, paranoid nut. I can't be assed with you any more. I don't live my life full of hate, and I don't need you trying to lecture/ insult me in any way. I'm done with you.

  • @MCsuperChristina I'm not a christian nor a muslim so I have no bias towards either, but people who try to put christanty in the same basket as islam. Not only fail at the compassion, but make themselves look silly for even making that reference...

Theres been 18,000 jihadist attacks since 9/11 in over 50 countries.

Do you know how many of been non-islamic? 7, Only 7

Somethings not right with the thought process of liberals like you who say this. I think your anti-capitalist agenda fuels it

  • @fargonbastedge You mentiond democracy in your first comment.

You have confused muslims with fundamentalist muslims. Fundmentalist/extreme/radical of anything is bad (muslims, christians, left, right).

I thought I'd share a point that the Catholics have done wrong since you're so convinced muslims are the only evil.

  • @MCsuperChristina Wrong. Never did I mention nor did you mention anything about democracy.

Why assimilate with Christians(or any infedel for that matter) when there koran tells them not to.

and why are you so quick to defend islam and bash the catholic church? You liberals have a lot to answer for who stick up for islam. I've never understood you guys do that.

  • @fargonbastedge Yes and Hitler was heavily supported by the Catholic Church, and religious institutions enforced slavery and taught Social Darwinism (whilst waging a war against the idea of evolution).

I also know you wrote muslims feel superior to democracy, and supported your argument with a quote from the Qu'ran abut Jews and Christians ? (a little off-topic, don't you think?).

Do you even know what the principles of democracy are?

  • @MCsuperChristina Oh really? Heres some versus from the Koran that tells them not to take jews and christians as friends.

(4:144) O ye who believe! Take not for friends unbelievers rather than believers: Do ye wish to offer Allah an open proof against yourselves?

Ishaq 262 - "Some Muslims remained friends with the Jews, so Allah sent down a Qur'an forbidding them to take Jews as friends.

If you spent more time on the history channel and less time watching American Idol then you'd know this.

  • @fargonbastedge Well you based your 'fact' on prejudice and rumour, with no substance. Therefore I disregarded it.
