Mario Paint Composer: Unfinished Projects

This is a collection of all my unfinished projects on MPC. I made this mainly for my benefit, but decided that I might as well upload it to YouTube. I would enjoy comments on any of these songs.

1st: Sounds great, though I think maybe some of the intervals could be wrong and the improvisations don't sound too good, I think moving down an octave or something could be better.

2nd: Mushrooms are too powerful and the dogs make the last 2 intervals sound wrong (plus at the end I think you'll know the rhythm's weird.

3rd: Wouldn't know but sounds good.

4th: Gameboys a tad rapey.

5th: The echo is missing :O Otherwise great.

6th: I've always though real is a bit too overpowering :/ ...

7th: Sounds great! Though do the acoustics drown out the electric guitar so much in the original? I wouldn't know.

8th: Nice! I prefer this over the original sf one.

9th: The bit near the end of the 3rd file (and middle of 4th) sounds weird, maybe it's the bass or the chord (or me).

10th: Definitely sounds like one of the most consistent ones, electronica suits it. Probably my favourite.

6: This was started back when the only custom sound font I had was real, I am thinking about just redoing it.

7: I would not know, one of last things I do for some songs is play them back to back and then make soundfont modifications or volume tuning.

8: Ya, I liked this as well but it was put on hold when I saw all the soundfont changes I need to get the next part.

9: Is it the high tones screeches you hear, because it might be mistakes I made with the sound font.

1-2: Ya, the reason a lot of these songs are in here is because they didn't turn out as good, I actually made this video to see which ones I can actually improve.

4: I am currently trying various volume controls to get it to sound better, but I know what you are saying. Besides the gameboys, I am wondering what you thought of the flowers.

5: I was actually trying to get the echo with a different note to allow for volume control but then I found that no notes have quite the same octave.

I remember playing FF8 when I was about 8 or so and Fithos scared the crap out of me when I got there... Didn't help that all the lights were off... -_-

You captured the feel of it excellently (custom SF one, original is great too).

I like Still More Fighting (#9) but I found it a bit to slow for my tastes, but nonetheless it's still awesome to the awesome power.

I'd definitely keep working on Fithos Lusec Wecos Vinosec (either/both versions) - it's a personal favorite of mine, and your custom soundfont version has almost the exact level of proper creepiness.

One thing about Still More Fighting, though - I can't hear most of the hearts. Should you continue this one, I'd bump up their volume a few notches.

Basically, all are great starts - any one can become a fantastic finished MPC.

6) Sounds like your typical corny real soundfont song. Man, why can't anyone use that soundfont right?

7) Way too slow, and many wrong rhythms. It definitely needs some work

8) Sounds much better than the original sf version. This is another one you should probably finish.

9)I think there are some sample problems with the soundfont you're using. Is this Hard Rock? Also, it needs a lot of volume control.

10) Kewl. I like this one too.

1) Could definitely use some volume control. There were also some odd notes and instrument choices.

4) Like where this one was going. Is it supposed to be a final battle remix or something?

5) Sounds great. I think you should continue it.

8: Yeah, I don't edit SFs but I know it's a lot of work

9: I think it's the second last organ chord, though I have no idea what'd be wrong with it but I'm pretty sure it's notation.

4: I think they should just generally be quieter, also the fire flowers... they seem to lag slightly behind which doesn't help too much, so maybe miss out the base note and put them on one line?

5: Sometimes you have to screw instrumentation with the original soundfont. I've just quickly tried it and making the echo one instrument while making the main instrument 2 (like, mario+gameboy with a gameboy echo) sounds okay (but both being solely marios I found out didn't sound too good)
